In 2015, a collaborative partnership sparked between parishioner George Zink and Tim Kaine from the Second Harvest Food Bank in Muncie which launched an innovative experiment in food distribution directly to (then) St. Mary School.
The initiative, which brought food to schools instead of just traditional pantries, proved to be a groundbreaking success and has since blossomed into something truly special for Second Harvest.
Fast forward to today, and our routine has evolved into a well-oiled machine of generosity. We purchase food from Second Harvest Food Bank which is delivered to us in the morning twice a month. A dedicated team of parishioners then unloads and packs the food. By the afternoon, another crew takes over to manage the bustling Second Harvest Drive-Thru from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., creating a whirlwind of activity.
In July 2024 alone, this effort allowed us to serve 119 families—398 individuals in total. While visitors can only access the food pantry once a month, our drive-thru remains open to anyone who needs it whenever we host it. And it’s YOUR support that makes this incredible service possible.
Are you ready to make a difference in our community? We need your help!
Here’s how you can get involved: We purchase food from Second Harvest Food Bank, which is delivered to us two Mondays per month. We need volunteers to help unload and pack this food in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, we host a drive-thru event where another team of volunteers distributes the food to families in need.
If you’re ready to be part of this rewarding effort, we’d love to have you on board. Call the pastorate office at 765-644-5956 and leave a message stating that you would like to help. Join us in making a tangible difference—volunteer with us and help spread the joy of giving. Your time and energy can make all the difference!
